The Backfire Nexus...

July 15, 2008, about noon...

Here's a close up map of the operations that have gone on over the past day or so... click on it to expand the view.

The red line is the fire, backing down toward the proposed yellow dozer lines. The green line is Carmel Valley Road. The orange line is the dozer line that the fire "slopped over."

Jamesburg "circle" is the big black dot labeled "DP-303" about center-top of the map. This section, "Div RR", is where they are planning to backfire, when the conditions are right. Meantime, we sit tight and wait, along with the Unified Command, for the right conditions.

Folks, right now the meeting is on hold. Unified Command has changed their mind. Apparently they are concerned about their own safety inside the evacuation area. I was told that we can go to the public meeting tomorrow if we want raise concerns w/ the IC. But so far, no assurances any of us would be able to return home if we go. So do so at your own risk. I'm still working on that.

I suppose the beekeeper in me would be cautious to let the bees out of the hive after whacking on it with a stick for 3 days ;)

BTW - a correction, the public information officer's name is Chuck Dickson. I had misspelled his name. Sorry Chuck.

Cheers.

Thank you for keeping things humorous in the midst of the carnage. It feels good to smile.
