Incoming....

July 11, 2008, about 12:15 pm...

Two pieces of news that are disturbing for Jamesburg:

• Our neighbor who lives up the ridge directly behind us, between Haelleck and Kincannon Canyons, just had a visit from the Monterey County Sheriff, who warned her to prepare for a mandatory evacuation from between 4 and 24 hours from now. She's now about 3 miles from the fireline... the white line is from our house to the fireline, which is about 4 or so miles.

• The latest report has been posted to InciWeb and here are the East Zone highlights:

Active fire behavior due to high temperatures and low humidity with slope driven runs, spotting and torching. Poor overnight humidity recovery, which has triggered a Red Flag Warning, has also contributed to fire spread with active fire even in the morning hours.

Significant events include crews and aircraft still working to contain a spot fire outside Division TT(Rodeo Flats) control lines.

Planned Actions are to contain spot fire in Rodeo Flats area. Hold current lines and provide structure protection as needed. The fire was very active today burning toward the east into the Tassajara Road and Caves area.

The growth potential for the fire is stlll "High" and containment remains at 41%.

Stay tuned.... this is NOT a fun development for Jamesburg, Cachagua nor for us!

We may know more sooner than later, but tonight, there's a meeting in Carmel Valley Village tonight, Friday, July 11 at 6:00 pm, Tularcitos Elementary School, 34 Ford Road, Carmel Valley, (831) 385-6954.

I'll be there to record the meeting and I'll post it to the KUSP website as soon as possible.

You are doing an incredible job keeping people up to date.

I wish you & all your neighbors the best during this very trying time with the fire.

Thank you so much, Mark!!!

I hope we all come out of this, OK, too!

Today, I'm very worried.... the next 24-48 hours will tell the tale for us, I think!

Be well!!!

Kelly,

Now that Big Sur is getting back to business, your blog and "Sitting with Fire" seem to be the sources of information for Cachagua and Carmel Valley. Keep up the good work.

From where are you getting the MODIS maps?

Hi, Karl!

I'll keep going as long as I can! My partner and I have already decided that we'll stay home and defend our property.

Search on this: kml-global-modis-hotspots.kml

in Google for the MODIS file that automatically updates - on the fly - in Google Earth.

Thanks for the good wishes!

Best,

Kelly
