SoS, DD...

July 4, 2008, about 10 am...

This is the Same Old Spot, on a Different Day... but it tells us a lot about the progress of the fire over Big Sur and Pico Blanco Areas.

Compare this one with the photo of a few days ago, in the part of this blog entitled "And then, the fire goes to the office..."

The picture is taken at 36°28'13.71"N, 121°42'52.21"W (check  Google Earth), and it's about 10 miles away from the fire line. The directional bearing is about 192 degrees to the peak at mid-right in the picture (Little Pines?).

If you don't have Google Earth access, This spot is at the "hairpin meander" of the Carmel River, on Carmel Valley Road, on the "village" side of Stonepine, looking through the fence surrounding a vineyard.

Later in the day, we took our boat out on Monterey Bay, from which to watch the 4th of July fireworks. This plume is another view of Pico Blanco, Big Sur and south of Palo Colorado Canyon. The picture was taken after the wind died down a bit, at about 4pm, just off the municipal wharf in Monterey.

The bumpy grey line along the beach is the dense crowd of people gathered to see the fireworks and enjoy an otherwise beautiful 4th of July day
