Latest MODIS map from Jim, with contingency dozer lines...

July 15, 2008 about 11 pm...

Jim Kasson sent me this map earlier in the day, but I had to run to town to attend the Community Meeting at Tularcitos School in Carmel Valley and I got the chance to post it only this minute. The magenta line adjacent to Cahoon Summit, and running along Carmel Valley Road, is the presumed contingency dozer line.

Here are Jim's comments: (though, be sure to check the Carmel Valley Community Meeting audio, for the IC's comments on today's activity in the Anastasia Canyon area)

The no-new-hot-spots couldn’t last, and didn’t. The afternoon data shows:
  • Two new spots close together outside the old fire lines, but inside the new fallback fire line, which is in magenta.
  • More hot spots southeast of Miller Mountain, an area that has been hot on and off (mostly on) for the last few days.
  • Nothing on the north or northeastern sides of Elephant Mountain.
  • Fire south of the Boy Scout Camp, an area that had been quiet for a few days.
I don’t know if they have been able to start the backfires in White Oaks Camp area. It’s been in the low 70s with a RH of 60% most of the afternoon here, so maybe it’s too humid to backfire.
